Apparently racism and sexual exploitation are chic at one of the most popular nightclubs in Las Vegas.

This ad for Tao Nightclub plays on Orientalist tropes about Asian women’s sexuality, and makes light of the many underground “massage” operations that offer “happy endings” in North America. It’s certainly not a happy ending for exploited, often undocumented, women workers, who bear the brunt of legal action when these fake massage parlors get busted.

    I don't know if this is racism or exploitation. But it's definitely culturally ignorant. I'm not sure why a club would want to advertise that their female clientele are whores, but that's just stupidity on their part. It might explain why that club attracts cheesy people. If anything, it's a lack of class. Fratboy humor to market an "upscale" club. It's never a good idea for westerners to appropriate other cultures. Everything is reduced to stereotypes and cultural icons are misused. In this ad, Asians are literally represented as a faceless entity. And why does every "Asian" themed bar have a spiritual theme? That would be like going to China and seeing a bar named Jesus. As China's economy rises, people are going to be fascinated by Asian culture. But they are also going to fear it. One way to reduce the fear is to appropriate the culture.
