Don’t Ms.: Women’s History Month, Million Women Rise, Mujeres de Maiz and More!

Everywhere: March 1 was established in 1986 as Women of Color Day! The first also marks the start of Women’s History Month–this year’s theme is “Our History is Our Strength.” Stay tuned all month long as we blog about special events and special moments in women’s history.

New York: If you’re in the mood to dance while helping to support public education, head to The Downtown Music Festival, benefiting The Fund for Public Schools. The festival features Art Brut, Lissy Trullie, Santigold and others. Vancouver, British Columbia: The Utopia Now Festival: Women and Digital Culture features music workshops, dance parties, panels, performances and Peaches! Proceeds support W2’s Second Annual Girls Creative Tech Summer Camps. I saw Peaches perform once and it was nuts–get your advance tickets here. March 5-6 @ W2 Storeyum, 151 W. Cordova St.

San Antonio: The Black and Brown Feminisms in Hip Hop Media Conference will address issues of agency, objectification and struggle in hip hop, and the conference includes performances. March 4 @ University of Texas at San Antonio

London: Join in the U.K.’s 4th annual demonstration against global male violence at the Million Women Rise march. Meet March 5, 12 p.m. @ Hyde Park

Los Angeles: The Mujeres de Maiz 14th anniversary art show celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s Herstory Month is an interdisciplinary, intercultural, intergenerational experience worth checking out. March 6, 6 p.m. @ The Paramount, 2708 E. Cesar Chavez Ave.
