Women, Money, Power: The Unbeatable Trio

It’s been a rough couple of months for women. Republicans are waging a war against us on state and federal levels, our rights are getting trampled on an all-too-frequent basis and the future is looking a bit dreary. We sign petitions and write letters to congressmen, but sometimes we may feel like screaming into a pillow—good for getting out the rage, but not truly addressing the problem.

Hope is never lost, however, and there’s a way to channel your frustration and anger in a productive way:  Attend the Feminist Majority’s Women, Money, Power summit this April 7-9 in Washington, D.C. Cosponsored by an array of women’s rights groups such as the League of Women Voters, NARAL Pro-Choice America, NOW, Women’s Media Center and YWCA USA, the weekend will bring together feminists from around the country to discuss the crucial issues of our time.

It will begin on Thursday, April 7, with an opening assembly featuring California Reps. Jackie Speier and Karen Bass, followed by a luncheon honoring Elizabeth Shuler and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. That afternoon, you will get a chance to take the Hill by storm, visiting congressional offices. Demand in person the right to choose. Ask your representative to bring back funding for Planned Parenthood and Title X. Call for more funding for the UNFPA. Demand birth control for women, not horses.

On Friday and Saturday, the summit will continue with panels, workshops and speakers–including a YWCA keynote lunch featuring Dolores Huerta–that will inspire, inform and motivate you. Topics include the fight for marriage equality, strategies to reduce violence against women, organizing for women and collective bargaining and fundraising for nonprofits during challenging times.

Sign up to attend the summit, the luncheon or both. Find out how to improve your skills as an activist for women’s issues. Meet some of the most powerful women in the movement for our rights, and learn from the best. Make your way to the nation’s capitol and gain the strength to keep on fighting.
