Let the Wedding Bells Ring: California Allows Same-Sex Marriage!

In an unexpected but extremely welcome move today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals lifted its stay on an injunction which ordered California officials to stop enforcing Proposition 8.

This means that instead of waiting 25 days after the Supreme Court ruling that came down on Wednesday morning, same-sex marriage licenses can begin to be issued immediately! And Gov. Jerry Brown has wasted no time in beginning to do this.

The two lead plaintiffs in the case, Kris Perry & Sandy Stier, were the first in line after the ruling and exchanged vows in the Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall. The other plaintiffs, Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo, are to be married in Los Angeles.
