The Latest on Fighting Priest Abuse

After Pope Francis made headlines last week for saying in an interview that the Catholic Church should not spend all its time speaking out on “moral” issues such as gay marriage, abortion and contraception, many cheered him for signalling a more liberal papacy. But the group SNAP—Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests—was not impressed.

Said SNAP director David Clohessy,

It’s good to make adults happier. But it’s better to make children safer. That should have been the pontiff’s top priority on day one. It should become his top priority now. He’s done nothing to protect children, expose predators and deter cover ups. Not as a priest, bishop, archbishop or cardinal. Not as the pope.

Want to know more about SNAP and the work they’re doing to expose and deter sex crimes and their cover-ups? Then come meet SNAP’s founder and president, Barbara Blaine, this Wednesday night, September 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the offices of Ms. magazine and the Feminist Majority Foundation.

She’ll give updates on the latest revelations about New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s involvement in scheming with the Vatican to keep tens of millions of dollars from victims of Church pedophiles—all while paying off the pedophile priests themselves. She’ll also talk about the increasing legal attacks on SNAP by Church defenders to discredit and defund the organization.

Wine and appetizers will be served at the reception, held at 433 South Beverly Dr. in Beverly Hills. Parking is available in front of and behind the building.

Please call 310-556-2500 for reservations.
