NEWSFLASH: Sen. Barbara Boxer Won’t Run for Reelection

One of the most stalwart supporters of women’s rights in the U.S. Senate has announced in an interview with her grandson that she will retire from office at the end of her term in 2016. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) is currently 74 and has served in the Senate since 1993. For the 10 years before that, she was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Though only 4-11, Boxer has stood tall among her colleagues in protecting the environment, supporting health-care reform, fighting for passage of the FACE act to prevent violence at abortion clinics and voting against the U.S. invasion of Iraq—among so many other progressive actions.

Thank you, Senator Boxer—we’ll miss you!!!
