Why We March: What Ms. Readers Are Fighting For

Today, women—and their allies of all genders—will hit the streets in over 600 cities around the world to send a clear message to U.S. lawmakers and the incoming presidential administration: We won’t go back. What started as a Facebook post has launched a global re-invigoration of the feminist movement; one coming on the heels of the inauguration of Donald Trump, who ran a campaign riddled with isms that has ultimately put not only women’s rights but their very lives at risk.

The Trump administration’s plans are clear. Over the next few years, we can expect the White House and Congress to attempt to roll back the progress feminists and activists across movements have put into place over the last century—from abortion rights to LGBT rights to civil rights.

We asked Ms. community members on Facebook to tell us why they were marching. This is what they said.
