We need to go beyond “safe” issues like education and economics and address the structural factors that prevent women from fully realizing their human rights. We will have to move conversations about challenging sexism and patriarchy and changing power dynamics out of side rooms and onto center stage, into keynote addresses and into the headlines.

Nina Besser Doorley is the Senior Program Officer at the International Women’s Health Coalition, where she came on board in 2014 as Program Officer for U.S. Foreign Policy. Previously, she spent seven years as a senior legislative assistant on Capitol Hill, including five with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. She also served as an adviser for Rep. Schakowsky’s 2010 reelection campaign. Her previous experience includes work with Genocide Watch and Amnesty International. Nina holds a Masters of Philosophy in International Relations from Cambridge University and a B.A. in history from the University of Mary Washington.
