Don’t Ms.: Walk for Choice, Lady Porn Day, a Bowlathon and More

Everywhere: The Oscars are this weekend; how many women will take one home? At the Ms. Blog we can’t help rooting for Sara Nesson’s Poster Girl as the best short documentary, and despite its lack of feminist content I personally want Exit Through the Gift Shop to win for the best longform doc (will I finally get to gaze onto the face of Banksy?). Feb. 27, 5 p.m. PST.

Did you know Feb. 22 is Lady Porn Day? Its goal is to get women across the globe talking and thinking about porn and masturbation in a healthy and fruitful way.

Show your support for women everywhere. Defend your right to bodily autonomy. Stop the GOP from eliminating access to vital healthcare. In other words, Walk for Choice! Check out the list of participating cities, or start your own walk! Feb. 26, 12 p.m.

New York: Attend a panel on “Sexual Assault & The Law” with Michelle Anderson, taking place as part of Rape New York, a series of public dialogues inspired by Jana Leo’s experience as a rape survivor and her book documenting her struggle for justice. Feb. 22, 6:30 p.m. @ CUNY Graduate Center, Midtown.

Los Angeles: Suzy Witten, author of The Afflicted Girls, will be discussing her novel and changing the definition of rape. Feb. 22, 7:30 p.m. @ The West Hollywood City Council, 8300 Santa Monica Blvd.

UNRATED: A Week of Sex in Cinema. How is sex represented (or misrepresented) in cinema? See some movies and start the conversation. Starts Feb. 25 @ Laemmle’s Sunset 5, 8000 Sunset Blvd.

Toronto, Canada: Check out the official book launch of Feminism FOR REAL: Deconstructing the Academic Industrial Complex of Feminism, featuring roundtable discussions from the book’s contributors, followed by a screening of The Road Forward. Proceeds from the evening will go to a scholarship fund created for the children of missing and murdered Aboriginal women. Feb. 25, 7-9 p.m. @ Toronto Women’s Bookstore, 73 Harbord St.

Raise funds for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multicultural Women Against Rape by attending the 18th annual Bowlathon. Feb. 26, 1-9 p.m. @ Bowlerama West, 5429 Dundas St. W.
