Women Become Majority of U.S. Paid Workforce

Ms. Magazine Proposes 5 Next Steps

Soon women will become the majority of paid workers in the United States for the first time in history.

Ms. magazine has just released an in-depth feature, Paycheck Feminism, on what a majority-women workforce means for our social policies. Our nation must update an outdated social contract, crafted in the 1930s, to reflectthe changed role of women today.

Ms. proposes 5 next steps to bring Social Security, health insurance, family and medical leave, childcare, and payroll taxes into the new millennium.

Available for interview on the implications of this historic moment are Ms. Publisher, Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, and Ms. Executive Editor, Katherine Spillar, vice-president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.

Contact Jessica Stites at 310-556-2515 or to arrange an interview. The following is a link to the Paycheck Feminism article in the fall issue of Ms. Magazine: Ms. rethinks governmental policies still in effect.
