For Egyptian Feminist Nawal El Saadawi, A Childhood Dream Has Come True

Just days before Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak bowed to nationwide pressure to resign, renowned Egyptian feminist Nawal El Saadawi spoke on camera with Ms. correspondent Lauren E. Bohn in Cairo.

In this pre-resignation interview, El Saadawi says she hopes for a secular constitution, an end to Sharia law and abolishing absolute power of the husband, among other changes in Egypt. Her dreams may now have real potential to become reality.

Throughout protests over the last three weeks, men and women have stood together in the streets, resisting authoritarian rule. Says El Saadawi, “This revolution united the people.”
