We Heart: Amber Rose as Gloria Steinem, Rosie the Riveter and More Feminist Icons

Here at Ms., we couldn’t be happier when a celebrity takes up the feminist mantle. So we were totally on board when Amber Rose emerged as a feminist fighter earlier this year. From her Los Angeles SlutWalk to her clever anti-slut-shaming video to her refreshingly candid interviews, Rose is quickly becoming a strong advocate in the fight for women’s rights.

That’s why we were thrilled to see Paper magazine’s feature on the model, author and businesswoman, with Rose dressed up as some of our favorite feminist icons. She’s Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes (above), Rosie the Riveter and more—and she pulls them all off well.

While some have been critical of the shoot, we’ll just offer this thought from Steinem, our cofounding editor: “We need to build bridges to those folks [celebrity feminists], not sit and nitpick what they have on. A feminist is just someone who believes men and women are equal beings.”

We’ll raise a fist to that!
