On the Issues with Michele Goodwin is a popular, issues and policy-focused podcast featuring feminist analysis, insightful conversations and exciting guests. This is the first podcast from Ms. magazine, a legacy feminist publication. In each bi-weekly episode, host Dr. Michele Goodwin and special guests will tackle the most compelling issues of our times, centering feminist concerns about rebuilding our nation and advancing the promise of equality.

A new episode—Feminizing Privacy: Women in Digital Spaces—is available now on Apple PodcastsSpotify and MsMagazine.com.

On today’s show, Dr. Goodwin is joined by experts Danielle Citron and Jackie Rotman to tackle the issues women face in online spaces — from privacy to misogyny to censorship of women who use their voices to speak out, and more. How are women taking on the tech platforms and fighting back in the face of online harassment, discrimination and censorship?

A full transcript of the episode may be found here, as well as a few excerpts below:

“We should understand intimate privacy as a fundamental right, and crucially as a civil right. That is a right that each and every one of us enjoys, as well as protection against structural discrimination—because we know there’s no doubt about it that women, that people of color, that LGBTQ individuals, their intimate information is most costly to them.” — Danielle Citron

“The reason that Facebook was misclassifying women’s health and blocking it is that they called it adult products, it was seen as sexual. And at the same time, Hims and Rowe were started in 2017. They were raising money to solve erectile dysfunction and raising huge valuations and ads were allowed that said ‘Get hard or get your money back.’ That was fine. Those are still running.” — Jackie Rotman
