FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | JANUARY 10, 2022

On the Issues with Michele Goodwin is a popular, issues and policy-focused podcast featuring feminist analysis, insightful conversations and exciting guests. This is the first podcast from Ms. magazine, a legacy feminist publication. In each bi-weekly episode, host Dr. Michele Goodwin and special guests will tackle the most compelling issues of our times, centering feminist concerns about rebuilding our nation and advancing the promise of equality.

A new episode—Revisiting the American Terrorism of 2021: A Year In Review (with Russ Feingold, Dahlia Lithwick, Joan Biskupic and Dr. George Woods)—is available now on Apple PodcastsSpotify and MsMagazine.com.

In this episode, Dr. Goodwin and her guests delve into the ramifications of the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the nation’s capitol, a year after it shocked the country. In the year since, what have we learned about the attack, and what it says about the current state of American democracy?

Dr. Goodwin also looks back on 2021, unpacking a year of unprecedented attacks on abortion rights, public health crises, political crises, and more.

You can find a full transcript of the episode here, as well as a few excerpts below:

“I don’t think there’s any question that this is an example of a democracy that is backsliding. And you know, I’m the kind of person that says, well, we’ve seen these things before, but this really strikes me as different, and much more disturbing.” — Russ Feingold

“In fact, the basic policing structure in America is predicated on the idea that folks can take the law into their own hands, as long as they’re white and the folks that they are hunting down are Black.” — Dahlia Lithwick

“Our democracy has always been a democracy of privilege. We can’t deny that. And so, the idea of saying our democracy is a homogenous democracy is not true.” — Dr. George Woods

“I’m reminded, of course, of how fragile everything feels, still. There’s no guarantee of justice.” — Joan Biskupic
