In her lifetime, Beatrix Farrand would design more than 200 private and public gardens—always with her distinct eye for intricate detail and perfection in execution, and in spite of numerous gender-based barriers to her own success.

Prior to joining the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association as a horticulturist, Karen Waltuch spent four years as the gardener of a Historic House Trust site in northern Manhattan. Her professional studies included tutelage under two exceptional female gardeners—Senior Gardener Gelene Scarborough of Wave Hill in the Bronx, New York, and Hilda Krus HTR of the Horticultural Society of New York’s Rikers Island GreenHouse Program.
