New Fifteen Minutes of Feminism episode of Ms.’s On the Issues Podcast—The Trump Indictments: Unpacking the E. Jean Carroll Litigation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | MAY 17, 2023

On the Issues with Michele Goodwin is a popular, issues and policy-focused podcast featuring feminist analysis, insightful conversations and exciting guests. This is the first podcast from Ms. magazine, a legacy feminist publication. In each bi-weekly episode, host Dr. Michele Goodwin and special guests will tackle the most compelling issues of our times, centering feminist concerns about rebuilding our nation and advancing the promise of equality.

A new episode—Fifteen Minutes of Feminism—The Trump Indictments: Unpacking the E. Jean Carroll Litigation (with Moira Donegan)—is available now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and MsMagazine.com.

This week, On the Issues is launching a special new series following the litigation and criminal charges that have been levied at the former president Donald Trump: The Trump Indictments. Last week, a New York jury ruled that columnist E. Jean Carroll was sexually assaulted and defamed by the former president, and awarded her five million dollars in damages.

This case is also far from the only litigation faced by the former president—Trump is also the subject of several ongoing investigations, including one case dealing with his 2016 hush-money scheme for which he was indicted last month, a federal investigation into his role in the January 6 insurrection, and more. In this episode, Dr. Goodwin is joined by The Guardian columnist Moira Donegan to dive into the Carroll verdict, and its implications for the larger case against former president Trump.

A full transcript of the episode may be found here, as well as a few excerpts below:

“On the one hand, this was not a very ambiguous case. You know, Carroll did a wonderful job of establishing a real pattern of behavior. There are, of course, 26 women now who have publicly accused Donald Trump of some kind of sexual misconduct.” —Moira Donegan

“It’s interesting, because Donald Trump lies so habitually. You know, he lies as often as he speaks, and there has been kind of an imperviousness to the truth for Donald Trump.” —Moira Donegan
