3 Ways to Celebrate 50/50 Day

Today is the first annual 50/50 Day—a global event made possible by a team of organizers, funders and sponsors fighting for a more gender-balanced world. Here are three ways to get in on the action, share your perspective and learn from a slew of amazing and inspiring women before the day’s end.

1. Watch the Film

Before you do anything else, sit down for 20 minutes and stream the short 50/50 Day film directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Tiffany Shlain. It explores the 10,000 year history of women’s lives and women’s power.

2. Engage Online and Offline

Check out one of the over 11,000 events happening around the world today—in 50 states and 65 countries—and find one near you! If you can’t make it to one in-person, you can still join the conversation online as part of an all-day live digital program at 50-50day.org featuring speakers and panels like the female former presidents of Iceland and Malawi, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, comedian and activist Margaret Cho, activist Dolores Huerta and actor and activist Eva Longoria. (You can even ask questions!)

3. Spread the Word

Take a photo of yourself with a six-word explanation on why you want a more gender-balanced world. Upload it to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #GettingTo5050 and tag @SixWords. (These images will eventually be used for a public art mural in Oakland as a collaboration among organizations and artists!)

Tell us why you’re part of the fight for 50/50 in the comments!
