If you’re looking for ways to fight back against the abortion bans being passed across the country, the national and regional organizations below are great places to start. Whether you give, become involved locally as a volunteer or advocate or even sign up to be a clinic defender, you can make a difference by connecting with them.
National
- The National Network of Abortion Funds builds power with members in at least 38 states to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by organizing at the intersections of racial, economic and reproductive justice.
- Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project leads efforts nationwide to reduce anti-abortion violence, keep women’s health personnel and patients safe, keep clinics open and hold violent anti-abortion extremists accountable.
- ACLU National and local ACLU affiliates are often the first to sue states with restrictive abortion laws, preventing them from taking effect.
- NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood organize locally and nationally for comprehensive care. You can also become a PP Defender to protect abortion clinics and patients from harassment.
- Speaking of… If you Google “[your city] + clinic escort volunteers” you’ll also find ways to assist your local provider—but Los Angeles for Choice, We Are New York Values, Kentucky’s Every Saturday Morning and New Orleans Abortion Fund might be good places for some of y’all to start.
Alabama
- Yellowhammer Fund provides funding for anyone seeking care at one of Alabama’s three abortion clinics and will help with other barriers to access, like travel and lodging. Alabama’s ban goes into effect in six months, but legal access remains until that point. Your donations will help them do as much as they can in that time.
- Access Reproductive Health ARC—Southeast helps Southerners and their families navigate the pathways to access safe, compassionate and affordable reproductive care by providing financial and logistical support and building power in communities through advocacy, education and leadership development.
Georgia
- SisterSong, the legendary reproductive justice collective, is a membership organization strengthening and amplifying the collective voices of Indigenous women and women of color to achieve reproductive justice by eradicating reproductive oppression and securing human rights.
- Feminist Women’s Health Center provides safe, accessible and compassionate abortion and gynecological care to all who need it without judgment. They are the only non-profit, locally-based organization in Georgia that directly provides reproductive health services, but also engage in organizing and advocacy.
- Access Reproductive Health ARC—Southeast helps Southerners and their families navigate the pathways to access safe, compassionate and affordable reproductive care by providing financial and logistical support and building power in communities through advocacy, education and leadership development.
- SPARK is focused on reproductive justice in Georgia and the South—and continuously cultivating communities where everyone can make sustainable and liberatory decisions about their bodies, genders, sexualities, families and lives holistically and without shame or fear of policing.
Mississippi
- Jackson Women’s Health Organization is the only abortion clinic in Mississippi. They operate with a commitment to providing gentle, confidential health care for women in a safe and pleasant environment.
- Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund is a volunteer-led, dedicated group of Mississippians who believe in access to full reproductive health care that includes abortion as a human right and an essential part of reproductive justice.
- Access Reproductive Health ARC—Southeast helps Southerners and their families navigate the pathways to access safe, compassionate and affordable reproductive care by providing financial and logistical support and building power in communities through advocacy, education and leadership development.
Kentucky
- EMW Women’s Surgical Center is the only licensed abortion provider in Kentucky.
- Louisville Clinic Escort Volunteers accompany people seeking abortions to the door of EMW Women’s Surgical Center while practicing de-escalation and promoting normalization of abortion access.
Ohio
- Women Have Options provides financial assistance and practical support for patients seeking contraception, emergency contraception and abortion services. They distribute funds to clinics throughout Ohio.
- Preterm provides abortion care and other sexual health services—including birth control, STD testing and treatment and wellness care—to patients in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Columbus and the entire state of Ohio.
Louisiana
- New Orleans Abortion Fund works with local medical providers to provide compassionate and empowering assistance to patients seeking abortions who are unable to fully fund their abortion. They distribute pledges as available.
Missouri
- Gateway Women’s Access Fund provides public education and support for people needing reproductive health services, primarily by providing financial assistance to Missouri residents who cannot afford the full cost of abortion care.
Tennessee
- Choices is a Memphis-based health center seeking to radically transform the way reproductive health care is provided and perceived in the community.
Iowa
- The independent Emma Goldman Clinic was founded in 1973 by a group of women driven by feminist ideals, and they continue to empower women and men in all life stages through the provision of quality reproductive health care including abortion, gynecology services, safer sex promotion and active education.
