Black Women’s Equal Pay Day is being observed on Thursday, July 27, this year—meaning it takes Black women seven months to earn what white men made in 2021 alone.
Inequities in pay only exacerbate the compounding oppression of being both Black and a woman in this country. Gender justice must be married to racial justice in order for there to ever be a semblance of equal pay.
Native American women have one of the largest wage gaps in the country, earning approximately 51 cents per dollar paid to the average white man. This gap can lead to losses of over $1.1 million over a 40-year career compared with non-Latino white men.
Tuesday, August 3, is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day—the day in 2021 when the average Black woman working full-time year-round finally catches up to what the average non-Hispanic white man earned in 2020. In other words, it takes Black women eight extra months on average to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earn.
Tuesday, May 5, marks #MomsEqualPay Day—the day in 2021 when the average mom working full-time year-round finally catches up to what the average dad earned in 2020. In other words, it takes moms four extra months on average to earn what dads earn.
Thursday, October 29 is Latina Equal Pay Day—the approximate day in 2020 when the average Latina finally catches up to what the average white, non-Hispanic man earned in just 2019 alone.
Native Women’s Equal Pay Day is Thursday, October 1. This marks the day an average Native American woman must work into the new year to finally make what a white, non-Hispanic man made at the end of the previous year.
