Age-Blind Casting Reinforces Male Privilege

Sir Ian McKellen, 82, is playing a young Danish prince in what is being advertised as “age-blind casting.” Let’s call the “age-blind” casting what it is—a gimmick that reinforces male privilege.

We are conditioned by popular culture to accept men in any narrative, regardless of age. This casting courtesy is not extended to women.
