Mariya Taher has worked in the gender violence field for nearly nine years in the areas of research, policy, program development and direct service. She is currently working with the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association to pass state legislation criminalizing FGC. In 2015, she cofounded Sahiyo, a transnational organization with the mission to empower Asian communities to end FGC. She received her MSW from San Francisco State University.
