The Feminist Children’s Book You’ve Been Searching For

Your child’s library—and, if we’re being honest, your own library—has been lacking until now.

Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers and Visionaries Who Shaped Our History…and Our Future, a new feminist alphabet book written by Kate Schatz and illustrated by Miriam Klein Stahl, introduces young readers to a group of remarkable women who have left an indelible mark on society. With vibrant illustrations, accessible writing and an inclusive collection of women change-makers—from “A” for Angela Davis to “Z” for Zora Neale Hurston (and even “X” for the women whose names we don’t know)—Rad American Women A-Z is a book that belongs in the hands of all feminists, young and old.

Schatz said she was inspired to create the book by her daughter:

The idea came when my daughter was about two. … We have a house full of great books, but I wanted her to have something more to read…to teach her about women’s history in a way she could appreciate once she was a little older.  I couldn’t find the book I wanted, so I decided I’d try to write one myself.

The result was a book that vividly shows what women can achieve when they dream big.

The book is already a hit: Its first run sold out completely. But luckily, a new batch of books arrived mid-April.  You can purchase Rad American Women A-Z here.
