Malala Yousafzai Addresses the United Nations

Malala Yousafzai, who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban last year, turned 16 and celebrated her birthday by demanding that world leaders protect the right to education and gender equality.  She stood before the United Nations and gave a bold speech calling “upon all the governments to fight against terrorism” and to “protect children from brutality and harm.” The U.N. declared today Malala Day in a tribute to the young activist.
