Aza Comics, owned by writer and creator Jazmin Truesdale and known for its roster of multicultural female superheroes, has created a tribute video covering 100 years of women’s history to celebrate Women’s History Month. The video starts with women’s suffrage in the 1920s and goes through an impressive collage of videos and images of influential women of the past 100 years set to Benny Goodman’s popular tune, “Sing Sing Sing.”

“It was important for me to include influential women from all over the world, not just the United States,” said creator Jazmin Truesdale. “Aza Comics celebrates all ethnicities and backgrounds and I wanted to make sure the video covered not only well-known names but also unsung heroes.” From Ida B. Wells, to Kerri Strugg to Nobel prize winners, the video manages to highlight the incredible advances of women throughout the decades with a clear indication that there is more to come in the future.

The 100 Years of Women’s Herstory will kick off a series of Herstory videos highlighting women who have impacted and influenced our lives throughout time. “I am a total history buff and nearly all of my superheroes were inspired by real influential women,” says Truesdale. “The Herstory series is a dream come true and I’m glad I’ll finally be able to do it and make it a part of Aza.”

The Aza Comics Superhero Universe.

If you’re not familiar with Aza Comics, it’s a superhero universe centered entirely around women. Most of its stories focus on a team of super (s)heroes called The Keepers, who spend their time planet hopping, getting into impossible shenanigans, and fighting evil villains in space. Not to mention, one of Aza’s characters was inspired by Janet Jackson—who is so legendary, she’s in the video twice!
