Moderated by ABC News’ Juju Chang, the Sept. 22 panel will bring together Nina Burleigh, Swati Sharma, Linda Villarosa, Paula Vogel and Jennifer Weiss-Wolf to examine how women in media can shape the national conversation.

Ms. magazine and Women’s Media Group will bring together leading journalists, writers and media executives in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for a timely conversation about the role of feminist journalism, and the power of women’s voices to shape news, culture and public policy.
“Feminist Journalism Today: Continuing the Crucial Conversation About Women’s Voices in Media” will explore where feminist journalism is thriving, which approaches are most effective, the challenges confronting the field and how women in media can steer the national discourse.
Emmy Award-winning journalist Juju Chang, co-anchor of ABC News’ Nightline, will moderate the conversation. Chang has reported extensively on gender-based violence, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, mental health, anti-Asian violence and other defining issues of the past four decades.
She will be joined by:
- Nina Burleigh, journalist, bestselling author, documentary producer, contributing editor at The New Republic and publisher of the politics newsletter American Freakshow.
- Swati Sharma, editor-in-chief and publisher of Vox, where she oversees the explanatory news organization’s editorial vision and business strategy across its digital, video and podcast platforms.
- Linda Villarosa, contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine, journalism professor at the City University of New York and author of Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism on Health in America, a finalist for the 2023 Pulitzer Prize.
- Paula Vogel, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright whose works include How I Learned to Drive, Indecent and Mother Play.
- Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, executive director of Ms. partnerships and strategy, executive director of NYU Law’s Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center and author of the forthcoming When in Menopause: A User’s Manual and Citizen’s Guide.

Women’s Media Group is a New York City-based nonprofit association of women working across publishing, film, television and digital media, that works to support women across media industries while mentoring young women pursuing media careers.
Both organizations share a commitment to ensuring women’s experiences and perspectives are represented as stories are told—and as history and policy are made.
