NEWSFLASH: 15 Down, 35 to Go!

Illinois is just Gov. Pat Quinn’s signature away from becoming the 15th state in the U.S. (plus Washington, D.C.) to legalize same-sex marriage. The state’s General Assembly passed the marriage equality bill today, and Quinn has already promised to sign it.

Opposition to the bill came mainly from religious groups, including the Catholic church, white evangelicals and black ministers.

If the governor signs the bill into law as expected, same-sex marriages will begin in the state next summer.
