We Heart: The Women Senators Who Showed Up for Work Post-Blizzard

As the snow settled on Tuesday morning and normal life resumed in Washington, D.C., Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) noted something unusual about the Capitol building.

“As we convene this morning, you look around the chamber, the presiding officer is female. All of our parliamentarians are female. Our floor managers are female. All of our pages are female,” said Murkowski, who waited out the blizzard in D.C. instead of returning home. “I think it’s genuinely fabulous.”

Murkowski, who was tasked with delaying Senate business until all members could return after the storm, noted that the all-women gathering wasn’t planned, but called it “different in a good way.”

“Perhaps it just speaks to the hardiness of women,” she said. “You put on your boots and put your hat on and get out, slog through the mess that is out there.”

Cheers to you, senators!
